This one is inspired by our good friend Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Think TCO but in loaf cake form. Chocoately, orangey, cakey, DELICIOUS.

I really love chocolate and orange together, it’s one of my favourite combinations for sure – something about creamy sweet chocolate with tangy citrus just does it for me. It’s also so festive so the perfect bake for this time of year.

This is basically a delicious chocolate loaf cake, dense but not heavy or too rich as the orange really lifts it, also with a DELICIOUS chocolate orange buttercream. You can’t have a good cake without a buttercream in my opinion.

It’s really easy to make and takes no time at all, it’s a real crowd pleaser, everyone will love it!
Ingredients
175g butter, softened
200g caster sugar
2 eggs
175g self raising flour
1tsp baking powder
2tbsp orange extract/essence
3tbsp milk
Buttercream
75g butter, softened
150g icing sugar
50g coco powder
2tbsp orange extract / essence
Method
- Preheat your oven to 180C fan and line a baking tin with parchment paper or grease well with butter.
- Cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy, then beat the eggs in one at a time. Fold through the flour and baking powder until combined, then beat in the milk and orange extract until you have a silky smooth batter. Pour into your cake tin and bake for 35-40 minutes. After about 25 minutes, if the cake looks like it’s darkening too much on top cover with clingfilm for the remainder of baking.
- While the cake is cooling out of the oven, make the buttercream. Start by beating the butter really well until it’s paler in colour and super fluffy. Beat in the icing sugar, coco powder and orange extract until a smooth buttercream has formed.
- Icing the loaf cake and enjoy!
